Effect of the Endogenous LH Surge in Ovarian Hyperstimulation Cycle

Abstract
The author tried to evaluate certain adverse effect of endogenous LH surge that happened during ovarian hyperstimulation with clomiphene citrate/human menopausal gonadotropin or human menopausal gonadotropin alone.
The results were as follows
1 Endogenous LH surge occured significantly higher rates in ovarian hyperstimulation with human menopausal gonadotropin alone (48.3 %) than with clomiphene citrate and human menopausal gonadotropin(12%).
2) Serum estradiol levels was significantly lower in surge group than Non surge group from 2nd day prior to human chorionic gonadotropin administration.
3) The obtained rates of mature oocytes in LH surge group(35.4%) was significantly lower than Non-LH surge group(68.7 % ).
4) The fertilization rates were significantly reduced in LH surge group (46.3 %) than NonLH surge group(62.8%), however, the cleavage rates did not differ significantly in both groups.
5) The embryo qualities were significantly lower in LH surge group(31.6%) than NonLH surge group(52.8 %). 6) The serum estradiol levels in LH surge group was significantly lower than Non-LH surge group. however, the serum progesterone levels did not differ significantly in both groups.
7) Pregnant rates in LH surge group and Non-LH surge group did not differ significantly.
